Thistledown Gorgeous Grenache 2022
Aromatic and lifted on the nose with a beautifully layered, textural palate with wild strawberry and spice.

2022 vintage followed in much the same vein as the much lauded 2021, though for the Riverland, yields were down because of a massive hail event in November 2021. Once past that hurdle, the season was characterized by regular moderate rainfall, friendly temperatures and an elongated ripening period which allowed for an even spread of fruit over the harvesting period. The wines are characterized by balanced, aromatic fruit profiles, crisp acids and a capacity for both youthful exuberance and ageing. Vintages such as the 22 are just what we love at Thistledown – gentle, moderate seasons that allow Grenache to express its energetic, textural beauty to the max.
Grenache is Australia’s signature grape variety and we’re slightly obsessed with it. Utilising a range of premium vineyards across South Australia, we’ve crafted a wine that captures all that is good about Grenache. Aromatic, deceptively light but with beautiful wild fruit, and slurpy, supple tannins.
Sourced from a number of old vineyards in the Riverland and McLaren Vale, some of which are dry grown bush vines. All vineyards are vinified in small batches, separately. Wild ferments, whole bunch inclusion, larger oak and no filtration or fining help define the delicious, energetic character of the wine.
