Tait Basket Pressed Shiraz 2014

93 Pts Wine Advocate
The 2014 Shiraz Basket Pressed comes from a different Rowland Flat vineyard from the one that went into this bottling through 2010, with younger vines planted on unirrigated sandy soils. The style remains the same, with big, bold fruit backed by soft oak shadings and ample richness. It’s full-bodied and velvety on the palate, with a long, fruit-driven finish.
All grapes are picked when physiologically ripe to obtain peak ripeness in terms of sugar and flavor. The grapes are de-stemmed into open fermenters, pH is adjusted and fermentation takes place over 10-14 days at a temperature of approx 24 degrees centigrade. Heading down boards are used ensure the cap (skins) are completely immersed giving the resultant wine richness. The wine is then pressed using a Basket Press. The wine is then transferred to barrel to undergo Malo-lactic fermentation and to mature for 24 months. All wine is racked and returned to barrel 2 to 3 times during the 12 month period to ensure a clean wine that does not need any fining or filtration. Color: Deep Black colour. Nose: Intense aromas of black current, Stewed plums, and chocolate. Palate: Full bodied berry palate with a sweet long lasting finish.
