Oliverhill ‘Red Silk’ Shiraz 2013

December 2015
A beautiful vintage has produced a wine with an inky dark purple color that is dense and almost light capturing. The nose combines blackberry and blueberry fruit tones accentuated with oak spice, a touch mocha/chocolate and cracked pepper. Concentrated but nicely balanced on its medium fuller to fuller frame, the tannins are powdery and quite fine giving some focusing grip to the sweet blue and black fruit flavors. This is quite juicy in the mid palate but finishes dry on its persistent finish. Just now starting to open up this concentrated effort should drink beautifully over the next 3-4 years. If you drink it young make sure to let it open up as it will flesh out nicely and gain suppleness.

This is a juicy and flavorful red with blackberry, coffee and chocolate character. Full and flavorful yet shows a fresh backbone of acidity and tannins. Good tension and freshness.

Bright violet color. Fresh cherry and blackcurrant aromas are sharpened and lifted by a peppery nuance and a hint of candied flowers. Supple and broad on the palate, then turns tighter in the middle, offering sappy black and blue fruit flavors and a building note of spicecake. The long finish features resonating blue fruit and cola notes and just a hint of fine-grained tannins. — Josh Raynolds
Perhaps It’s the old age and low yields of our vines, or maybe the special care and attention our fruit receives in the winery. The essence of McLaren Vale Lives in our wines.
