Casas del Bosque La Trampa 2022

“Intense violet color with slight blue hues. The aromatic notes are well integrated and form an intense and elegant bouquet. If drunk early in its life, it is suggested to aerate it so that it offers its full aromatic potential. This version of La Trampa is marked by an increasing role of Malbec in the blend. The floral notes of the Malbec planted on a red granite hillside under the cool climate conditions of the Las Dichas sector, gives a perfumed wine with silky tannins. The Syrah plays an important role in complementing the aromatic expression with its blackberry, black pepper and meaty notes, providing length and persistence on the palate. The Pinot Noir continues to be the component of the blend that helps to perfect the balance, balancing the intensity of the Syrah and Malbec with its lightness. Aging in French oak barrels allowed for an excellent evolution of phenolic compounds, while the use of concrete helped to keep the primary aromas of the varieties intact. This is a complex wine at the time of its release in July 2024. It is still young and has great cellaring potential. Intense acidity, long and sustained towards the finish. La Trampa 2022 has the genetics of great cool-climate wines. It offers distinct impressions as it opens in the glass. The wine is likely to be at its peak in 6 to 8 years.”
– ALBERTO GUOLO
“A curious blend of syrah, malbec and pinot noir, this is a vivid and complex red, showing in-depth aromas of ripe currants, blue plums, red berries, hibiscus, chopped herbs and peppery spices. Full bodied and fine-grained, it has fresh tannins that vibrate with the mature, juicy fruit. Long, exhibiting lots of energy and firmness. Drink or hold”
95 points – James Suckling
“The 2022 La Trampa blends 65% Syrah, 30% Malbec and 5% Pinot Noir from Las Dichas, Casablanca. Violet, charcuterie, blackberry, plum and sour cherry make for an intriguing aromatic profile. Plush and lightly indulgent, with polished tannins and fresh lift, it is agile and fruit forward. The 2022 is a novel Chilean blend where Malbec and Pinot provide lightness. 2025-2040.”
95 points – Joaquin Hidalgo, Vinous
“This blend of Syrah, Malbec and Pinot Noir from Casablanca displays an interesting character full of spices and berries. The nose begins with hints of white peppercorn and floral notes. Gripping tannins and optimal acidity frame flavors of juicy red fruit that extend into a lasting finish.”
92 points – Wine Enthusiast
“Composed of 60% Syrah, 35% Malbec and 5% Pinot Noir, the 2022 La Trampa spent 18 months in 40% new 225-liter barrels. A ripe, jammy nose of black fruit preserves and purple flowers leads to a voluptuous, massively ripe palate. It concludes with a refreshingly taut, mineral-tinged finish that balances its otherwise punchy, fruit-driven decadence. While there is a clear step up in quality from the more introductory wines at Casa del Bosque, it is ultimately quite monolithic in nature.”

Harvested from the La Trampa parcel, on the north face of a hill with spectacular views of the valley. The vines were planted in 1999 – Pinot Noir, 2002 – Syrah, and 2013 – Malbec. The average yields are 3 tons per hectare/1.2 tons per acre. Frequent morning fogs, warm days and cold nights characterize the valley. The average temperatures in summer reach 18.9°C/66°F and during winter, 10.7°C/51°F. The daily temperature shift in March is 13.1°C/55.6°F. Yearly rains average 380mm, concentrating mostly between May and September. The summer of this vintage was hot and ripening occurred earlier than in other vintages. The fruit was selected from the highest part of the hillside blocks, where the soil is shallow and poor in organic matter. The Malbec and Pinot Noir were harvested in mid-March, while the Syrah was harvested in mid-April.
The grapes were destemmed and left to cold settle for two days. This pre-fermentative maceration was carried out without the use of sulfites, achieving microbial control with non-fermentative yeast. Alcoholic fermentation was carried out by inoculating selected yeasts in in truncated cone shaped concrete tanks. The Syrah was subjected to a 15-day post-fermentation maceration.
Ageing:
– 30% of the blend was aged for 18 months in first use French barrels.
– 25% of the blend was aged for 18 months in second use French oak barrels.
– 20% of the blend was aged for 18 months in French barrels for third use.
– 25% of the blend was stored for 18 months in truncated cone-shaped concrete tanks.
Blending took place at the end of October 2023. The wine was clarified with inactivated yeast and then filtered and bottled at the end of November 2023. After 8 months of bottle aging, it was released in July 2024.
